There's a reason I called my brand Comoda...
From the voice of Comoda Collective Founder:
This blog is a little more personal. I wanted to share the story behind Comoda Collective from my perspective...
Some people know exactly what business they want to start. For me, I knew exactly how I wanted people to feel.
Comfortable.
Cosy.
At home.
That feeling became my "why" long before it became a business.
When I started dreaming about Comoda Collective, I wasn't sitting there trying to think of products to sell. I was thinking about the feeling I wanted to create. The kind of feeling you get when you've finally changed into your pyjamas after a long day. When you're home, you've got nowhere to be and for a little while, you can enjoy the calm between today and tomorrow.
That's why I started with pyjamas. Because when I think of comfort, that's what I think of.
But I also knew pyjamas were never the end goal. I want Comoda Collective to slowly grow into a collection of products that all bring that same feeling into our everyday routines. That's where "Collective" came from. It's a reminder that this is just the beginning.
Around the same time I was dreaming up this business, I was travelling through Italy in 2023.
Something about that trip just stayed with me.
It was the first time I'd really stopped and appreciated my heritage.
I remember walking around thinking how lucky I am that my family comes from such a beautiful place.
Then I'd think about my grandparents, who left everything behind to move to Australia. Imagine how difficult that would have been. They built a completely new life so that their children and grandchildren could have more opportunities than they did.
They migrated in the hope that future generations would experience a life more comfortable.
That's something I'll never take for granted.
It also made me think of both my Nonnas. How I’d always have my top tucked into my pants to make sure I stayed warm and comfortable, and how there were always offers of food and something to drink. They were such simple, everyday things, but looking back now, I realise comfort has always been a part of how I experienced love.
Then it all made sense.
I was sitting in my family's home country, thinking about comfort, thinking about where I came from, thinking about the feeling I wanted this brand to create...
Why try come up with some clever business name?
Why wouldn't I just call it exactly what I want people to feel?
Comoda.
The Italian word for comfortable.
It felt like it honoured my heritage while staying completely true to the reason I wanted to build this brand in the first place.
At a glance, this may look like another small business entering an oversaturated market. And sure, maybe it is. But for me it goes much deeper than that and it's a reminder of where my family came from, the sacrifices they made and the feeling I've always wanted this brand to give other people.
I hope that every time someone puts on a piece from Comoda, they feel even a small part of what that name means to me.
This brand is not just about what you wear, it's about how it makes you feel!
